A visual journey through an extensive body of never-before-seen photographs documenting the Hexenkurse (Courses for Witches), the avant-garde, unorthodox feminist courses led by Swiss artist and educator Doris Stauffer in Zurich between 1977 and 1980. Reclaiming the witch as a figure of female knowledge and creative power, Stauffer and her comrades created a space for collective experimentation, blurring the boundaries between art and life.

Artist’s bio

Doris Stauffer (1934–2017) was a Swiss artist and educator. A co-founder of the F+F Schule für experimentelle Gestaltung in Zurich as well as a key figure in the Swiss feminist movement, she developed an experimental practice across photography, performance and collective forms of learning. She initiated the radical Hexenkurse in the late 1970s.
